Covered truss bridge in timber construction
Variation study, conceptional design - Equivalent to German service phases 1-4
In line of a case study four different approaches to the design and structures of truss bridges are supposed to analyse. The four different systems in the case study are:
1. A tiled structure in which braces from glulam are leaned against each other to build the roof structure
2. Structure of a glulam girder supported by a steel-truss-system spanned underneath
3. Lateral truss supporting main truss structure
4. Truss structure with a trapezoidal bridge profile
All four designs are based on a traditional, locally common used roof structure with a tiled roof.
The aim of the case study is to work out an adequate design to a bridge design to take up the historical context of the surrounding existing bridges, while implementing a convincing contemporary approach also. Very important during the development was to ensure sustainable constructive protection of the timber parts.
