Sustainable Standard Bridges in Timber Construction

Aachen/Lohmar - DE January 2017

Over the past few years, many bicycle and pedestrian timber bridges have been replaced by prefabricated constructions made of steel and aluminum. In some cases these bridges are from the 1980s and 1990s, which have not reached the intendet service life due to a lack of constructive timber protection or neglected maintenance. The aim of this research project is to develope standard bridge types in timber construction, which have a long service life, can be produced economically and also can be maintained at low costs. This research project is being realised in association with the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and is supported by the European Union and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
